Long-distance move from Santa Barbara, CA to Charleston, SC

COMPLETE CON ARTISTS

Essentially everything the previous reviewer(MichaelVanWelden) wrote was identical to our experience, except we were also extorted out of an additional $7K dollars and 90% of our furniture was severely damaged. They are criminals. We are following up with the FBI, the US Dept of Transportation, the Better Business Bureau, have hired an attorney, and will make sure this does not happen to anyone else. In my 49 years, I have never engaged with such a dishonest and terrible group of people. This is no exageration. BEWARE.

BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE, this company is a totally scam artist, quoted me a move from Miami to Jacksonville for $740. Called the company 3 times to verify price. We get to Jacksonville and they told me my balance was $1200. $460 more than they quoted. Told me if I didn't pay they would take my furniture and store it in Orlando and charge me by the day until balance was paid. Total nightmare. PEOPLE PLEASE BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY.

Not a smart move for us or even others.

To whom this may concern:

Move date: August 5, 2016

The time was moved on us from the initial agreed upon time of 9am, it changed to 2pm and then I was called and asked to change it to 12 noon. I called to make sure there was no confusion and was told that the move would be at 2pm. Well, they were 20 minutes late showing up, I waited along the main street to help guide them in and they just passed my up. I called them and gave them correction changes. Now for the rest of the facts.

I served over 30 years of active duty military in the ground transportation career field. As a former commercial driver and career transporter, I wished I could still physically do my skill set but due to service connected disabilities I now must rely on businesses like yours.

With that said, this was without a doubt the worse and unprofessional move for my wife and I ever. I say this after working with professional moves that have move our household goods worldwide to/from places like Japan, Germany, Korea, Hawaii, Iraq/Kuwait, Charleston SC, St Louis, Abilene TX and many other locations. Well you get the measurement of comparison here.

We provided a detailed list of what was to be moved and even reduced that list by moving many of the lighter items before the scheduled move. The total amount to be paid was expected to be $419 with a requirement to pay $100 down immediately. I was told that $319 would be due at the completion of the move and must be in cash unless I was willing to pay an additional service charge for using a credit card.

The moving team included a driver that had been on the job only four days and the other two had even less time. Don't get me wrong, they worked hard but they did not work smart. Their inexperience and failure to arrive with all the required equipment and supplies made the move tougher for the movers and took much longer costing me much more than was expected. In other words it took twice as long to do the move. Because of my experience we really did make this a dream move for anyone doing the labor. They failed to show up with enough wraps and tie-downs to properly protect the furniture. When they finally got everything loaded with the assistance from my wife, they began their journey of 16 miles to our new single level home with a huge front entrance door. They chose to back the Budget lease truck they were driving into the driving and eliminated the front entrance as their primary entry. The lift was positioned directly at the garage entrance and the offload began with a few near mishaps. This was certainly a great OSHA example of what NOT to do. Again, they worked hard but they were not properly trained to do the job and and took many safety risks along the way. This caused the move to take much longer on both ends of the move.

By the way, before they offloaded they told me I would need a total of $698 in cash instead of the agreed upon $319 balance. Wow! Just do the math and it's easy to see that the total move process is seriously broken and I was to pay for that broke process. Who has that kind of cash when you are only expecting to pay $319. Yes, I had to borrow the funds from my VA disability pay to take care of the doubled charges. Why? Because the supervisor's boss was on the line and told his guys to not offload the truck unless I came up with the additional funds. This sounds like a dream case for the legal community for sure.

What was damaged? They destroyed a wooden 60" credenza TV stand worth about $399, deep scratches in the top surface of our Ashley Furniture foot-board, deep gouge and scratches in one of the Ashley night stands, a rip in a leather recliner worth about $499 and a couple other items. All this had been documented on the moving teams discrepancies and insurance forms for damages. This all happened on August 5th and we have yet to hear from anyone.

We will give it a couple more days and then we will go to plan B with the legal team and the BBB.

Total Scam And Ripoff.

The estimate included: *Full service move door to door *White Gloves service *Loading and Unloading *blanket wrapping and quilt pads *Free use of wardrobes boxes *Disassembly and reassembly of your furniture. The scheduled moving date was June 28th 2016 at 2pm and movers never arrived, then after negotiating the elevator reservation with my building I was offered another elevator reservation for June 30th at 2:30pm and the moving was rescheduled with company for 2:30pm, employees arrived at 7pm after the elevator cut off time. I asked the movers why they were not using blankets or quilts to protect my furniture as offered in your quote for white glove service, they replied they were not given any blankets or quilts with the truck and had no tools with them.
Due to their late arrival, I helped them but they finished loading the truck at 9 pm and couldn’t make it on time to unload it at my new location (cut off time 5 pm). I received a call from the company to let me know that my furniture will be delivered the next day at 9 am and was suggested to buy an air mattress for the night and send the receipt to the company!! The next day a different crew arrived to unload the truck, which had a mechanical problem and couldn’t park in front of my building. The rain started and they dragged all my furniture on the floor damaging several pieces of which I have filed a claim, which has not be resolved as of today. The supervisor asked me to pay the balance in cash for an amount of $375 plus $60 in tips and when I asked for the receipt he said the company only uses electronic receipts and I should receive it very shortly, I never received it. The next day my bank alerted me that 2 charges of $170 and $236.19 had been applied to my account on top of the $50 deposit and the cash payment. During my call to the company Saturday, July 2nd to complain about this issue, I was told they will investigate the situation with the supervisor and these charges would be reversed to my account, as of today no credit has been credited to my account and damages to my furniture have not been compensated.

Don't use this moving company. Beware.

Thompson and Son Moving company out of Boca Raton is a joke moving company. They promise qualified moving people and they hire bubbs of the street. Claim they will come with boxes and garment boxes and show up with no materials. They end up going to Home Depot to buy box and Hefty garbage bags They put $1500 to $2000 dollars suit in hefty bags. They tried to disassemble a $2500 dollar entertainment center with one man that destroyed the back made of varnish italian wood, which can not be used because of the damage. This unit was bought at scandinavian furniture. The owner claims it was from ikea. We told him we have the invoice of this entertainment unit. Refuses to listen. The mover were thieves and took a Monte Blance watch that is valued at $2500.00 out of my night table. Living me only my collectable watches of James Bond.(thank God) We had to pay up front for the delivery before they would unload. Delivered half our stuff and claims they will deliver the balance next day. It now has been a week and we had to call to threaten. The owner is not an American he is from another country and thinks that his values apply here. If you want this kind of service from this company be prepared for the worst.

Thompson and sons moving.

Don't u ever used this company , they are a scam! A fraud ! I was in the Internet looking for a co 3 man & a truck, ask for a quotation , and they took my phone called me and set up a moving for a 1 badroom and a 1 bathroom to a storage for $289, and said they are very professional, sent u a boxes for everything also the sales person said , should be fine for 3 hours, bc is a small apt. They sent 3 kids no more than 18 years old, they had no clue what they are doing, and the only think they had was a small dolly! My building don't allow the movers put the furniture in their carpet as all buildings, and they make u sign a company papers, and don't give u any copy! I called and complain w a person saying is the owner, Shawn and he was very rude bc I am a woman and they said if I sign the paper I agree I had to pay wherever they chartger! End up I called the police bc the driver , a kid named Dalton didn't delivery to my storage, made me wait there , never show up and took off w all my furniture! After I the police talk to them , they agree to delivery to the next day if I will I paid them 7 hours ( just to load the truck! ) I had to pay if I want my things back! I went to their office to have my things back! Now I will sue them, I miss a lots of things and they ruined my furniture, bc they never pack properly, they were kids and they knew, without any knowledge of moving, just to charger u per hour! Off course they will take a 7 hours to load any truck, and the truck didn't belongs to the company , was from Cummings lease! They are a scam bags, robing other company business over the Internet! I will sue them!

Be careful.. Be careful.

They are nice and quick to set up your move but it any thing goes bad they give you the run around. If you don't like there kind compensation they will just shut down. Please review this company before ask for there help. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

1. When the move was scheduled I was advised that the estimated start time would be between 8 am - 9 am (1st move of the day). I received a phone call the day before the move and the new estimated start time would be between 11 am to 1 pm (something came up was the reason I was given for the change of the start time). The day of the move I got a call (around 10 am) stating that the move prior to my move was under estimated and that they were still in the process of that other move. They stated that they would be able start between 2 pm and 3 pm. Chris, Jerry and Marc arrived at the townhouse at 3:30 pm to start this move. They stated that the move prior to mine was really underestimated and that they "got their butts kicked". They stated that they were "over worked, tired and a little hungry". Side note the gentlemen were very continuous and polite throughout this process. The estimated time that I got from your company was 5 hours. I also got 3 other quotes from other moving companies and they also estimated about 5 hours. The moving time that I was charged was 7 hours. I believe that if I was the first move of the day the moving time would have been reduced. The added expense for the two added hours was about $190.00. Another issue that extended the time for this move was that your team was not properly equipped to handle this move based on the fact that the only tools they had was an Allen wrench kit and 1 screw driver for the three movers.

2. The web site states that "We Blanket-Wrap Your Furniture at No Additional Cost". I have attached many photos of the furniture clearly not blanket wrapped. If the furniture were wrapped properly I may not have had to fill out the attached paper work.

3. When it was time to make payment, the amount owed was $573.00. I gave the gentlemen $600.00 in cash. He did not count the money or even ask the simple question of "sir do you need change". Courtesy to the paying customer would have been to confirm the amount given and asking if they wanted change.

4. Since the move end at 9 pm I was not able to inspect the old location to see the amount of damages they caused to the walls. The old location needed to have 4 walls speckled and painted due to the damages that was causing by the movers. Again going back to the fact that the furniture was not properly wrapped for the move. An added expense for me to have that work done.

Side note -- The movers left a red hand trunk at the house.

I am looking for compensation for the above issues as well as the compensation for the damaged furniture. Please contact me as soon as possible so that we may resolved this issue in a timely fashion. I would like to keep these issues with your company and not have to seek outside help in getting this matter resolved.

Moving furniture and storage.

Where do I begin? First we called them and got a quote to move our belongings from our house to storage then from storage to our new house. Quote was for 2 moves prices and storage separately. They picked up the furniture from fist house without too much trouble and honored the quote. 1st month storage was suppose to be free. They never called me too bill me for the 2nd month so I called them and paid with my visa. They then back billed me for the 2nd month again 2 weeks later and then the 3 and 4 th month without my consent to auto bill my credit card. Shawn , the owner, said he would refund the 1st month, that never happened after multiple calls. When he finally did answer the call he changed the quote and said the salesman was wrong on the pricing and never credited me the 1st month storage. He the sent us another quote for the second move with was a lot higher even though we had a signed contract for the entire move. He had every excuse but couldn't back them up with any facts. He just kept ignoring us. This went on for 3 months. They delivered the wrong furniture to our new house and then had half of someone else furniture out of truck in the rain.I had to tell the men to pack this up before it was all ruined. # days later my furniture was delivered and I had items missing that they never found. I demanded to meet him at their warehouse in Orlando and when we got there all it was was a simple small business garage with furniture stacked everywhere on top of each other. They don't separate anything and it wasn't warped. I warped and boxed all of my belongings thank god. I had 4 items damaged and they sent some pics to someone else home too we got those back because that person saw our name and number on them. It was a joke!! Shawn refuse to talk with me and adjust our billing. Oh, he demanded cash upon delivery after the truck arrive. We gave the driver the cash since he wouldn't let them unload. I also had to call the police earlier just to get him to deliver my stuff. He kept delaying the due arbitrarily even though we had a agreed date. We are taking legal action now since is will not talk with us. He is dishonest and stay away from this company.
I had my doubts and they held true. Real you in with a low price then gouge you. The police here said demanding cash in Florida is also illegal. I didn't know that.

Dishonest business practices.

After I received an email for my initial quote to move, I decided to cancel the reservation. I did not sign the electronic agreement that was in the email. I did put down a $50 deposit. I decided to cancel the reservation because my friends decided to help me move. I called their customer service number and the lady said she would cancel the reservation and refund my money back. I received a phone call from Shawn about 10 mins later. I explain my reason and he was very negative towards me stating that I will not get my deposit back because the "truck has been reserved." No where on the agreement did they say they could not refund my money back. It stated that if I canceled before 7 day of notice there would be no penalty. I told Shawn that I will accept the $50 loss. I decided to accept the lost because since I felt that this company was already bullying me and being dishonest. They did not follow their own policy agreement and tried to intimidate me into keeping the reservation. I filled a complaint with the BBB. Obviously I would like to my refund but I think I saved myself from a massive headache had I kept my reservation.
